The Panda is one of the rarest animals in the world. Pandas live in the bamboo forest of South-West China. Although Pandas sometimes eat meat, they mostly eat bamboo plants. Over the last sixty years, the population of China has grown up rapidly. In order to feed the growing population, farmers have cut down many of the bamboo forests where the Pandas live. They used the forests as farmlands to grow crops and keep animals. Smaller bamboo forests had few Pandas. Also, hunters have killed many Pandas for their beautiful fur. Today, there are only between 500-1000 Pandas living in the world and the Chinese government has started to work hard to save the Pandas. They have planted new forests and have made laws to protect this rare animal. They have started to punish people who trade in Panda fur.
