Here and all throughout Oman, men still wear traditional white Arabic dress called “thobe” or “dishdasha”. The Omani dress is distinguished
from other styles of Arabic dress in that it is wide, even across the chest and the arms, without collar or cuffs, and usually has a small tassel attached to the button at the neck. At work in an office, the traditional white dress and accompanying turban are required for all Omani men. The same is required for boys and young men in school, except the boys are allowed to wear the small, embroidered cap (“qimah” or “taqqeeyah”) in place of the turban. Outside of the workplace, some men also wear dresses of other colours, such as light blue or brown.
